Standard Reset
Press the "Off" button for more then 10 sec. This will force the phone to turn itself off, even when it has crashed (almost like removing the battery). Should be used with caution as any unsaved work will be lost.
Master Reset
The master reset is well hidden (see below). Once choosen you will need to confirm the dialogue and enter your Phone-PIN (default is 0000 but you should have changed that).
| Language | Menu entries to follow |
|---|---|
| English | Main Menu -> Tools -> Control Panel -> Other -> Master Reset |
| German | Hauptmenü -> Extras -> Systemsteuerung -> Sonstige -> Werkseinstell |
| Swedish | Huvudmeny -> Verktyg -> Kontrollpanelen -> Annat -> Total Återställning |
| Italian | Menu' -> Strumenti-> Pann. Controllo -> Altro -> Riprist. generale |
Battery Reset
Pull the battery out and leave it out for about 10 minutes. Then the battery will reset and so will the phone.
Now this part is important; while the battery is out press and hold the button that you normally press to start your phone. This will zap the chip that holds a charge and information about the state of the battery. Now your files on your phone will be still there, but your phone will be set back to the factory setting before you first charged your phone.
You should charge your battery for two hours before you use your phone, like you did when you first got your phone.
Internal Disk Format
To get rid of some bad files on the C: drive of the phone, you'll have to do an internal disk format. This one is even more hidden than Master Reset and it will remove ALL your files from C: (on the phone), even most default files like games (QuadraPop and Vijay Singh), ring tones and themes (the Default theme will always stay). MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE THIS! (However restoring the all the backup will most probably give you some bad files back, so you better restart from scratch with your settings etc. Multimedia, Contacts, Calendar and Unified Inbox should be safe to restore, though.)
Anyway, to do an internal disk format, follow these steps (P990 users should follow these steps with flip open):
- Open the phone app
- Do the "Service menu sequence": Jog wheel up, Tap *, Jog wheel down, Jog wheel down, Tap *, Jog wheel down, Tap * (Jog wheel movements should only be one click each and 'Tap *' can be replaced with pressing * on the keyboard)
- Select Format internal disk
