Phones/P1i/Bugs/Other
From UIQ3 open-source software
Alarms, notifications
- There needs to be separate volume- settings for 'alarms' and calendar reminders.
- Interval on the diode- strip at the bottom of the phone should be possible to change.
- Slumber- functions on alarms and reminders. An option to control the interval of the time before a repeat of the alarm/reminder would be useful.
- When the phone is in silent mode, the alarm clock is also silent
- There's only three preset alarm time and the weekdays/days selection (for the alarm to ring) is also not flexible enough. User should be able to take full control of what time should an alarm ring on which particular day of the week. (and i don't need an alarm to remind me that i'm hungry for lunch)
- Notification and reminder problems - difficult to reproduce, but it's possible to hang the phone by receiving a notification at the same time as an incoming call takes place.
Network notification by diode-strip (Feature request)
As in earlier mobile phones from Ericsson and Sony Ericsson, the P1i should be able to show network status by led-flash. This is a great feature since you don't have to get "hands on" just to see if you've got coverage. In a new firmware, you should have the choice to either let the diod-strip flash to inform you of missed calls and received messages or simply flash when the phone is within network coverage.
Along the same lines - a setting for enabling/disabling the network presence beep would be a neat addition. While a useful function, it's not every day I really need to be that alert to when I have network coverage.
Text- input
(Bugs)
- When typing with predictive text- input, it seems unpredictable when the program chooses to use the arrow- keys for scrolling the suggestions (words at the top of the page), and when the arrow keys can be used for moving the cursor. I.e, after inserting a letter into a word, by using the arrows, it may or may not be possible to scroll out again using the arrows.
- When using the "enter" key to choose the highlighted text suggested, when writing with predictive text input, this works well when writing at the end of the document. When using the same function in the middle of a text, the program insists on inserting a line- break, and moving the cursor, sometimes into other text. (Seems to be fixed in August 2007 firmware).
(Feature requests)
- Option to have the suggestions for words when writing with predictive input show up at the bottom of the screen, instead of at the top.
- When editing text, if you scroll past the end of the document, the cursor ends up at the top of the document. This should maybe be an option on the text- input.
- Add the possibility to change language (national/English) for text input in the QWERTY external keyboard with the use of a shortcut. This possibility is available on other SE phones by pressing for a few seconds the key #
Screen Lock
(Feature request)
- ..to adjust the time before locking, also time to activate screen saver
- Keyboard light - option to enable/disable lights on keyboard, and set timeout. Or, allowing timeout for keyboard lights to be independent of screen- timeout (useful when using stylus only, or external keyboard).
- Since it's not possible to enable the key- lock manually, or write a program for a key- lock (since there is no public api for the key- lock function) - an option to enable the key- lock while the call- application is running (from the more- menu, perhaps), would be very helpful. (exists through the drop- down arrow)
- Screen lock during call - There should be an option to allow/disallow incoming calls to release the screen- lock. I.e., when using a hands- free, it's not necessary to automatically unlock the screen.
Zoom function
2.While the zoom- function is not available in the ordinary picture- viewer, it is in the "Picture Gallery". Unfortunately, the zoom- buttons appear to be missing in all modes except when editing a picture (even though you can choose "zoom" in the "Picture Gallery" viewer, and have a miniature window shown over the larger picture... that cannot be zoomed, because there are no controls for zooming the picture. Which makes this mode identical to the base "view"- function launched from the filesystem or browser). [note: the scroll- wheel works..] The zoom function should be available in the image- viewer generally. And the miniature window for navigation should be possible to turn on and off (and possibly also possible to move around).
Time and Date
(bugs)
- Time and date format should not reset to default on reboot, only on factory reset.
Notes
(feature request) When choosing notes, you're offered a tiny window for jotting down hand- drawings. However, a very similar interface is offered in the MMS editor, except this one allows a scroll- window and other useful functions, such as choosing the resolution of the image/note. An option to directly use this programme (the mms editor), or the option to use this interface in the "notes" would be useful. (Optionally, implementing bigger and scrollable area for hand- written notes in the "notes" program. Perhaps with a pre- generated thumbnail of the picture to be displayed when browsing the "notes", etc.)
It would nice to have the option to sort the notes. It is rather difficult to scroll through the list or use the search feature each time you wnat you view your notes.
Track ID
(feature request) Option to choose recording source. It would be useful to choose the phone's media player, or radio, for recording Track ID samples.
Light
(feature request) Please, can someone write a torch application to turn the light on and off? At the moment I have to go in to phone mode, turn on flash and hold down the camera button half way to turn the light on! Surely it can't be hard to write an on/off light app?
Also, you can't turn the light on when recording video, unlike other Sony Ericsson phones. (perhaps this is more of a bug?!)
PDF Viewer (pdf+)
(feature request)
- In the integrated pdf viewer, the navigation buttons do not appear if viewed in landscape mode. There should be at least prev and next buttons in landscape mode.
- There are arrow keys on the keyboard, these should be used by the pdf viewer as well.
- Pdf+ controls
keyboard lock via * key
(Bug)
- Hitting the * key (with the tiny key icon on it) does not invoke the keyboard lock but gives a dial screen and the letter p
Program list (in main- menu)
Programs don't return to their folders very predictably after a hot- switch of the memory card or after a backup, etc. The "icon bug"
Handwriting recognition
(feature request) When inputting accents, it would be a neat trick if you could write the letter on the keyboard, and the accent on the touch- screen. Handwriting recognition request
Opera browser
(bugs)
- For some reason, it's only possible to paste a limited amount of text into the text- boxes. (Any other program is able to paste all the data from the clipboard.) Paste function in Opera
- Strange error when clicking the "new page" dialogue.
- "Back"- button stops functioning when jumping via in- page links.
- Text- files are opened in the browser, and are not possible to save to disk if you don't copy and paste the text manually.
(feature request)
- In the internet browser, the navigation buttons appear only if viewed in landscape mode. These should also appear in the Portrait mode.
- Some form of stylus- acceleration would be useful. (ex. when dragging the stylus one screen length, the browser could scroll 1.5 screens, etc).
Undo&Redo
(feature request) Undo and redo- functions.
VPN client
(feature request) PPTP protocol support.
QuickOffice
(bug) Quick- office hang. Quick- office will consistently hang when switching from portrait- mode to the task- bar. (I.e., choosing "task-bar" in the menu. Back- button, and so on, seems to work fine, though. Being in edit- mode or having an empty file, etc, doesn't seem to make a difference.)
Strange battery- drains
(bug) Sometimes reported on all UIQ3 phones: the battery will drain very quickly, and the phone will heat up - as if it's running a neverending loop.
Themes
(bug) The call backgrounds have no (known) patches in the themes.xml file.
Message notifications
(bug) The incoming message notification will stop working sometimes, even though the messages arrive in the in- box just fine.
