Note
Here are the good news:
Hi all First of all I would like apologize for the long wait but now I finally have the official statement that you guys and gals have waited for, here it goes:“In response to recent feedback from users and as a result of additional internal testing, Sony Ericsson has determined to offer a further firmware update for the P990 and W950 Walkman® phone. This move illustrates Sony Ericsson’s ongoing commitment to its existing ‘smartphone’ customers and the company’s desire to be responsive to customer feedback in order to provide an optimal user experience.'The next firmware release for the P990 and W950 will be available from the Sony Ericsson Update Service from August 2007.”' Cheers /Johan'
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/message.jspa?messageID=106167#106167
Regarding the M600: 'I haven’t heard of any future development on M600, so far the decision on continuing firmware development is only for P990 and W950, nothing else has been said I’m sorry to say.' [...] Cheers /J
R6A16 Bug List
Disclaimer
This is the bug overview - follow the links on the bug number to the detail page. As Johan said, please fill in as much information as possible about the bugs, namely:
- seen behaviour
- expected behaviour
- Steps to reproduce the bug
This way more of us can confirm the bugs, and it helps the devs identify them. See R6D23/29 as a good example for a detail page.
Before posting a bug please check if the bug is already in the list. If if it is, expand the description of that bug with your own observations. Double postings only make the list longer and will only make things messy.

Known Bugs
When adding new bugs use 1. as template for the details. P990 bugs can be transcluded by the use of {{:R6D23/1}}
| No. | Short Description | Fixed | References |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. | Memory leaks are still present - it's worse than R5. | - | - |
| 2. | Alarm is ringing on Saturday and does not on Monday with settings: "Working days only(Mon-Fri)" and "Sunday" as starting day of the week. | - | - |
| 3. | Application installed on memory stick, and then assigned to different folders, revert back to Tools folder after memory stick removed and put back. Exception is Vijay Golf. It stays at original folder | - | - |
| 4. | The problem of Alarm not kicking remains, however it's less often than previous firmware. Can't be reproduced consistently, as it happens at the most unexpected moment | - | - |
| 5. | Phone freezes and the "answer call" button doesent work. Can not reproduce, happens rarely. Seems identical to P990 R6D23 known bug 30. | - | - |
| 6. | Phone occasionally stops receiving incoming calls and SMS but continue to display full-bar signal indicator with no error messages. Service is restored (ie. can start receiving calls again) when phone is restarted. Seems identical to P990 R6D23 known bug 56. | - | - |
| 7. | Phone usually mutes car stereo when connected to a HCA-60. Often, but not always, releases mute when an MP3 is played and paused in the media player. Usually mutes stereo again after a phone call is made. The bug isn't 100% predictable, on rare occations it doesn't show up. (This bug is an improvment over the previous firmware, which led to silent phone calls when playing MP3's.) | - | - |
| 8. | If a sim stored number is accessed through a location key (eg: 8#), the message and ring buttons (but never the more button!) is sometimes missing. Somewhat hard to reproduce, as it never happens if done slowly, and the author have only seen it happen as the first phone call after disconnecting the phone from a HCA-60 (phone paused in the media player), and a subsequential release of the key lock, but on the other hand, for this specific sequence it happens to the author about 25% of the time in daily use. | - | - |
| 9. | Occasional clicking/cracking sound can be heard from the back speaker on the phones released for south Europe. However if you try running mp3/video it instantly dissapears, but it starts again as soon as the song/video stops playback. This can be heard on the headphones too. | - | - |
| 10. | Ghost alarms, if you set your very first alarm at any time and then set other 2 alarms, later, even if you turn them all off, the first one you set will be still active and only way to remove it is to master reset/reflash your phone. Noticed on M600i phones released for south Europian market. | - | - |
| 11. | Alarm Low Volume/Ascending Short Tone: SE decided to change the way alarm behaves. It should be made into option. On R5, the Alarm was flat (volume flat at the level set by user). However, it's now changed into ascending and short bursts, which means if a longer mp3 file is selected, the volume will never get to max at the level set by user | - | - |
| 12. | Contact picture resolution is fuzzy due to bad compresion. | - | - |
| 13. | Multiple instances in contact history in Messaging. When you send SMS to a person (let's say John) via Messaging app. and then send another one using Contacts app. or using New -> SMS you will get three John in contact history (by tapping on 'To') | - | - |
| 14. | If the Screensaver starts in Edit-Mode (e.g. SMS) and you unlock the phone again, the input method is set to "Numbers" for me. Reproduceable. | - | - |
| 15. | When receive a call with "speaker on" mode, it sounds very low (just like we hear in normal "Speaker Off" mode). This is very atrocious. | - | - |
| 16. | This one is regarding error messages usually experienced by almost all m600 users, there are repeated errors when running or at start up of most of the symbian or java 3rd party softwares resulting in shutting down of the application and few kbs of memory leak.Appropriate plugin addition and update needs to be examined. | - | - |
| 17. | USSD numbers (like *100#) stored in Speed Contacts sometimes don't work. If it stops to work, only several reboots help. | - | - |
| 18. | Left and Right arrow are not working well in Calendar and Message.
Calendar: When in Month view, pressing left and right arrow does not advance to the next or previous month. It is the same in Week or Day view. Message: When reading a SMS, it is impossible to advance to the next or previous SMS via the left and right arrow key. | - | - |
| 19. | Calendar does not remembers the view it was in prior to the application being ended in the task manager. For example, when the calendar is in Week view and you end the Calendar using the task manager, reopening Calendar defaults to Month view. | - | - |
| 20. | When opening a long note that spans more than 1 page in Notes, turning the jog dial down once will scroll the note to the end of the note instead of scrolling the note down 1 line. | - | - |
| 21. | Key locked screen does not show status on missed call or unread sms. When the phone is locked and the screen is off, the only way to turn the screen back is to press any key. After pressing any key, the Key locked screen would read "To unlock: Press...". However, the screen does not shows the status of missed call or unread sms and it is necessary to unlock the phone to check for missed call and unread sms | - | - |
| 22. | Bad implementation of time control. The number pad is not usable for the time control. Also, pressing left and right does not move the focus of the time control from hours to minutes (wrong behaviour) while turning the jog dial changes the number (correct behaviour) | - | - |
| 23. | When in standby mode, after keying some number in (as thou calling), it is not possible to add the number into contacts. Even thou you can copy the number to add to contacts, it is too much of a hassle. | - | - |
| 24. | When the phone runs low on memory, the low memory warning will appear and sometimes, the phone will simply freeze. Only way to salvage the issue is to remove the battery cover. This is very unacceptable as frequent removable of battery will cause the battery cover to be loose which might not be covered by warranty! | - | - |
| 25. | The file types that are not supported cannot be opened from the file manager even if the required 3rd party application is installed. The only possible way to view the file is by opening it through the application. This is a very unusual thing as every OS supports the direct opening of any file type, given that the required application is installed. | - | - |
| 26. | MY phone will close the Contact application with error6 if i try to sort out the display order of contacts from first name first to last name first or vice versa.
Also the messages received will show different times. Not so the problem with non symbian sets Also while watching movies the keypad light will continue to be on and waste precious battery life which is precious in such cases The thumbnails of contacts picture in the speed dial are blurred and not recognisable at all Also today being sunday the Alarm didnt go off. I set the default setting to everyday but still it didnt go off Also there's no option to check un-check the workdays in week
| - | - |
| 27. | Pressing back button can cause the phone to restart.
Here are the steps to reproduce:
This has happened to me several times over the past few days. I can reproduce it almost everytime. | - | - |
| 28. | Downloading e-mails makes the screen blinking all the time, until the download is finished.
It's very annoying if you download hundreds of headers... Also delete functon cannot be used during transfer. | - | - |
| 29. | Frequent XML parsing errors in the built-in Opera browser that wasn't present before. Happens at for example http://ipsc.invisionzone.com and a lot of other pages. Especially web forums seem to be affected. This error has been reported elsewhere on the web, see this page: http://awbholdings.com/techwatch/?p=151 | - | - |

This is not a bug, it's just that way. The problem is that with SMS you can't send 160 characters, but 160 BYTES. When a special character (Umlauts etc.) is eneterd, the whole SMS is sent in unicode format. And in unicode format, one character takes (at least) 2 bytes to send.. Your correct that it's not a bug. But it's neither true, that umlauts in SMS require unicode (older phone did get it without), nor is unicode always more than 2 Bytes per char. Certain charsets like UTF-16 handle it that way, in others like UTF-8 you only need more bytes for non-asciis. | - | - |
